Bangladesh-South Korea sign agreement on $13 million AI-Hub project

Diplomatic Desk:

A Record of Discussion (RD) has been signed between Bangladesh and South Korea to implement a $13 million AI-Hub project to develop skilled manpower in artificial intelligence (AI) technology in Bangladesh and further advance technology-based development.

The agreement was signed between the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Information and Communication Technology Division (ICT Division) of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology of Bangladesh, and the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance in Dhaka on Tuesday (August 25, 2026).

The project, titled ‘Fostering Innovative Technology Experts with a Focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bangladesh’, is known as the ‘AI-Hub Project’. The project will be implemented with a grant of $13 million from the South Korean government through KOICA.

Under the project, a modern and state-of-the-art AI-Hub Center will be established at Software Technology Park-2 (STP-2) in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. This will create opportunities for training, research and innovative activities to create skilled human resources and technology experts in artificial intelligence in Bangladesh.

The project will be implemented from 2026 to 2029. The Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) under the Information and Communication Technology Department will implement the project. KOICA and ERD will closely cooperate in this work.

The agreement signing ceremony was attended by senior representatives of the signatory institutions, as well as relevant officials of the ICT Department, ERD and Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority.

The agreement was signed after a series of discussions between the governments of Bangladesh and South Korea on technology-based development and capacity building. Those concerned believe that the AI-Hub project will play an important role in creating skilled manpower in the AI sector in Bangladesh, as well as in further strengthening innovation, technology development, and technical cooperation between the two countries.
