Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. This marked the first meeting between the Prime Minister and the President at Bangabhaban since the latter assumed office.
The President welcomed the Prime Minister upon his arrival at Bangabhaban on Tuesday (September 29) afternoon. Subsequently, senior officials of Bangabhaban—including the President’s Military Secretary, Secretary, and Press Secretary—were introduced to the Prime Minister.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister briefed the President on his recent visit to the United States, his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and various aspects of the tour. He also discussed meetings held on the sidelines of the UNGA session with heads of state and government from various nations, the UN Secretary-General, top UN officials, and senior representatives of international economic and development partner organizations.
The President extended sincere congratulations to the Prime Minister for the address he delivered at the UNGA session, describing it as “visionary, resolute, and guiding.”
The President remarked that the speech reflected Bangladesh’s national interests and the hopes and aspirations of its people, while also clearly articulating the country’s stance on critical global issues.
He further noted that the Prime Minister’s US visit played a vital role in consolidating and strengthening Bangladesh’s position in the international arena and in safeguarding public interests. At the same time, the visit made a significant contribution to expanding and strengthening both bilateral and multilateral relations.
During the meeting, they also discussed various matters concerning national and state interests.
The President expressed sincere thanks to the Prime Minister for visiting Bangabhaban.
It is worth noting that the Prime Minister traveled to New York, USA, on September 21 to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. On September 24, he delivered a speech in Bangla on the global UN stage, advocating for the interests of Bangladesh and its people and expressing the aspiration for a peaceful global society.
The Prime Minister returned to the country on September 27 after concluding his participation in the UN General Assembly session.
