Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani, the Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at his office in the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday afternoon (October 5, 2026).
During the meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, detailed discussions took place on various issues of mutual interest, including the maintenance of peace and order, security cooperation, the prevention and suppression of human trafficking, migration management, and the expansion of trade and commerce between the two nations.

Special emphasis was placed on providing specialized training to enhance the efficiency and professionalism of security forces, organizing joint workshops, and exchanging legislative support. Additionally, it was announced during the meeting that initiatives have been undertaken for the long-term import of LNG and fertilizers between Bangladesh and Algeria on a government-to-government (G2G) basis. Both sides agreed that this initiative would elevate the bilateral trade relationship between the two countries to new heights.
During the discussion, the Algerian Ambassador recalled that Algeria was the first Arab nation to recognize Bangladesh following its independence in 1971. He expressed Algeria’s keen interest in further strengthening the historic and friendly ties between the two countries.
In response, the Home Minister suggested that Algeria could increase its imports of ready-made garments and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh to further boost economic relations. He also urged Algeria to recruit skilled manpower from Bangladesh, including doctors and nurses.
Regarding the legal complications faced by an Algerian national currently facing trial in Bangladesh, the Home Minister advised filing an application through the due judicial process and assured that Bangladesh would provide the necessary legal assistance in this matter. Noting the invitation extended to the President of Algeria to visit Bangladesh on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Minister expressed Bangladesh’s pleasure at the President’s acceptance of the invitation. He emphasized the importance of finalizing a mutually convenient diplomatic date for the visit.
During the meeting, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening and strengthening cooperation in security, trade, and bilateral diplomatic relations.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (Political and Immigration Wing) Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, and Director General (Africa Wing) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ATM Abdur Rouf Mondol, among others, were present at the meeting.
