Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has emphasized upholding the dignity and professional honor of teachers, establishing a modern and technology-driven education system, and shaping students through a blend of knowledge, skills, and moral values.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Distinguished Teacher Award’ ceremony—held on Monday (October 5, 2026) at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital—where teachers selected from various categories, ranging from primary to higher education levels, were honored at the national level.

At the event, the Prime Minister handed over awards to 102 distinguished teachers in recognition of their significant contributions to the education sector. Each teacher received a cash prize of two lakh Taka, a crest, and a commemorative memento.
The Prime Minister stated that effective use of artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology must be ensured to make the education system contemporary. Simultaneously, emphasis must be placed on expanding technical and practical education, providing modern training for teachers, and ensuring equal opportunities for students in both urban and rural areas.
He also highlighted the necessity of creating a joyful learning environment, fostering students’ creativity and skills, and generating employment opportunities for students who have dropped out of the education system.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring financial security and social status for teachers to establish the teaching profession as the top choice for talented individuals.
He remarked that regardless of whether a teacher is currently employed or retired, they remain worthy of the state’s respect until the end of their lives due to their noble profession. He announced that he would instruct the relevant ministries to arrange for the timely disbursement of their dues—such as salaries and pensions—through banking channels, so that teachers do not have to endure the hardship of visiting offices to collect them.
The Prime Minister stated that the country’s teachers are key instruments in building a knowledge-based state and society. Therefore, ensuring their dignity, rights, professional development, and welfare is a vital responsibility of the state.
On the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, the Prime Minister extended his humble respects to the teaching community in Bangladesh and across the globe.
