Diplomatic Desk:
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir has remarked that, amidst the rapidly changing global landscape, Bangladesh’s foreign policy must be principled, pragmatic, and firmly centered on national interest.
He made these remarks on Monday (October 5, 2026) while addressing participants of the NDC course at the National Defence College (NDC) in Mirpur.

The State Minister stated that Bangladesh needs to adopt a visionary and future-oriented foreign policy against the backdrop of escalating global geopolitical competition, evolving security challenges, economic risks, technological shifts, climate change, and transnational threats.
He noted that the “Bangladesh First” policy is by no means an isolationist one. Rather, it signifies placing Bangladesh’s national interest at the core of diplomacy, safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, and expanding partnerships with various nations based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Humayun Kabir emphasized the importance of enhancing regional connectivity, fostering greater economic integration, and strengthening pragmatic cooperation with neighboring countries.
He stated that Bangladesh’s relations with major powers—including China, India, Japan, the United States, and the European Union—should be guided by balance and clarity. At the same time, the specific opportunities and challenges inherent in these partnerships need to be considered individually.

The State Minister also underscored the importance of protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of Bangladeshi citizens living abroad.
He said, “Bangladesh’s foreign policy will be confident yet non-confrontational; open yet not dependent; and pragmatic without compromising national interest.”
During his interaction with the NDC course participants, he also highlighted the need for a coordinated approach to safeguard Bangladesh’s national interests and diplomatic priorities within the changing international environment.
