Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed made this call when Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen met him at his office in the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday (February 25, 2026) afternoon.

The minister said that China and Bangladesh are long-time tested friends. Considering the regional, strategic and geographical location, we want to take bilateral relations to a new level. He said that China is one of the largest development partners of Bangladesh and has invested in many major projects. The minister requested the ambassador to further increase this investment in the near future.

The ambassador said that currently a politically stable government has been established in Bangladesh. As a result, the amount of investment in Bangladesh by the Chinese government will be further increased. He said that about 10,000 Chinese citizens are working in various sectors of Bangladesh. Development and security are interrelated. Therefore, he called for emphasis on strengthening law and order and security to increase investment in Bangladesh. At that time, the minister said that the number one priority of the current government elected by the people’s mandate is to maintain law and order and stability.

The ambassador requested Bangladesh to join the “International Alliance Combating Telecom and Cyber Fraud” alliance formed by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security and said that the proposal in this regard has been sent through the appropriate channels. The minister instructed the relevant officials of the ministry to review the Memorandum of Understanding on the “Plan of Action on Law Enforcement Training Cooperation” between the two countries as it expires in 2023. The minister informed the ambassador that he will visit China at his convenient time.
The meeting discussed various issues of mutual interest including security, law and order and suppression of cybercrime between the two countries, cooperation in the police training sector, increasing trade and commerce and strengthening bilateral relations.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Chinese ambassador offered floral greetings and congratulations to the newly appointed Home Minister of Bangladesh. He conveyed the greetings of the Chinese Minister of Public Security to the Minister and invited him to visit China in September this year.
The meeting was attended by newly appointed Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, along with relevant officials from the Ministry and the Chinese Embassy.
