Desk Report:
Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaliv Rahman has expressed a firm resolve to advance the media sector through cooperation rather than control.
He made these remarks on Sunday (August 23, 2026)—his first working day after assuming office—during an exchange meeting at the Secretariat with officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and its subordinate departments and agencies.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister stated that the responsibility of credibly conveying the government’s activities to the public is of utmost importance. At the same time, the relationship between the government and the people, as well as the issue of national unity, must be given serious consideration.
He said, “The government does not wish to control the media; rather, it seeks to advance the media sector through cooperation.”
Andaliv Rahman noted that the government bears the responsibility of upholding the nation’s sources of pride—ranging from cultural and religious values to the spirit of the Liberation War. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting must play a pivotal role in this regard.
Describing the current period as one of the most challenging times in Bangladesh’s history, he stated that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is working with absolute sincerity. While errors can occur in the discharge of duties, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to ethical standards.
The Minister said, “Under the Prime Minister’s bold leadership, our mandate is to serve the country and advance the interests of the people.”
He urged officials from the ministry and its subordinate agencies to work with dedication, professionalism, and coordination to realize the government’s goals and objectives.
