State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir stated that Bangladesh attaches great importance to its long-standing partnership with the United Nations and remains committed to further strengthening cooperation based on shared priorities and national development goals.
He made these remarks on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) during a meeting with the UN Acting Resident Coordinator, Carol Flore-Smereczniak, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the State Minister expressed his gratitude to Carol Flore-Smereczniak for her leadership of the UN Country Team in implementing the Bangladesh government’s development priorities.
When asked about the Prime Minister’s key engagements during the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly session, Humayun Kabir briefly outlined them. He also mentioned the Prime Minister’s meeting with the UN Secretary-General.

The State Minister called for more effective coordination among various UN agencies and urged for closer alignment between UN programs and Bangladesh’s ‘Five-Year Strategic Framework for Reform and Development (2026–2031)’.
The Rohingya crisis was also discussed during the meeting. Expressing gratitude for the UN’s continued humanitarian assistance regarding the crisis, Humayun Kabir urged the UN to intensify its efforts to ensure the rapid and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas to their homeland in Myanmar.
He stated that the only effective path to a sustainable solution for the Rohingya crisis is their safe, dignified, and sustainable repatriation to their own country.
In response, the UN Acting Resident Coordinator commended the ongoing cooperation of the Bangladesh government and reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to deepen its partnership with Bangladesh.
She also highlighted the UN Country Team’s commitment to working closely with the Bangladesh government to address shared challenges.
