Bangladesh has called for strengthening global initiatives to eradicate racism, establish equality and uphold human dignity. Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman made the call at a commemorative meeting organized at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday (March 23, 2026) to mark the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Racism’.
Dr. Rahman reiterated the country’s unwavering commitment to eradicate racism, emphasizing Bangladesh’s signature to all relevant international conventions against racism and racial discrimination. He highlighted the ongoing racist atrocities in Rakhine and Gaza and said that the international community is still far behind in achieving the goals of the Durban Declaration and Plan of Action.
The Foreign Minister emphasized the problems of deprivation, exploitation and limited access to justice of migrant workers worldwide, saying that these situations are contrary to the core ideals of the United Nations. He called on the international community to take effective steps to prevent discrimination and injustice.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman, highlighting Bangladesh’s constitutional commitments, said the country is committed to protecting human rights, equality and dignity and is working to build inclusive societies, peaceful coexistence and strengthen human rights institutions. He also emphasized investing in education, combating online hate speech and strengthening intercultural dialogue to build a world free from racism.
