Price control is now a priority program – Commerce Secretary

Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mahbubur Rahman has called for working sincerely to control prices.

He made this call during an exchange of views with officials of the Ministry of Commerce and heads of its departments and agencies at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce today, Wednesday (February 26, 2025).

The Commerce Secretary said that the programs that have been taken to keep consumers comfortable during the month of Ramadan must be implemented properly. Price control is now our priority program. At the same time, he instructed the officials to strengthen the monitoring of TCB’s product sales activities.

This is his first formal meeting with the officials after joining the Ministry of Commerce as Secretary.

Chairperson of the Bangladesh Competition Commission AHM Ahsan, Director General of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection Mohammad Alim Akhtar Khan, Chairman of the Tariff Commission Dr. Mainul Khan, Additional Secretary (Export) of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary (Director General, Trade Organizations) Mohammad Navid Shafiullah, Additional Secretary (WTO) Dr. Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhter and Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) Chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Faisal Azad were present at the time.

It is worth noting that on Tuesday (February 25, 2025), the Ministry of Public Administration issued an order to promote Mahbubur Rahman to the post of Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce. He is a member of the 13th BCS Customs and Excise Cadre. Earlier, he served as Additional Secretary (Administration) of the Information and Communication Technology Division and Director General of the Export Promotion Bureau.
