Diplomatic Desk:
The High Commission of India in Dhaka inaugurated the newly refurbished HCI Library at the Indian Cultural Centre, Gulshan Avenue, marking a significant enhancement in cultural and educational cooperation between India and Bangladesh.

The library was formally inaugurated by Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma. The event was held alongside the observance of the 127th birth anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

As part of the Nazrul Jayanti celebrations, the High Commissioner paid floral tribute to Kazi Nazrul Islam, highlighting that the poet’s literary and philosophical contributions continue to resonate deeply within the shared cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh. He noted that Nazrul’s poetry remains firmly embedded in the collective memory of both nations.

Speaking at the inauguration, the High Commissioner expressed hope that the HCI Library would continue to serve as a welcoming intellectual space for readers, researchers, and all those who value books, ideas, and cross-cultural understanding.

The library, one of the longstanding knowledge hubs under the High Commission of India, has historically served as a center for disseminating information on Indian art, culture, literature, history, politics, and economic affairs. The newly upgraded facility now houses an enriched collection of books in English, Hindi, and Bengali.
The HCI Library will remain open to members from Sunday to Thursday, between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM. The monthly publication Bharat Bichitra, published by the High Commission of India in Dhaka, will also be available for readers.
The program concluded with a cultural performance featuring soulful renditions of Nazrul songs by Bangladeshi singer Avijit Kundu, adding a vibrant artistic touch to the commemorative event.
