Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that ADB’s rapid and timely economic response and financing will play a very important role in the implementation of the country’s development plan in the adverse situation of the recent war in the Middle East. This rapid cooperation of ADB among multilateral development cooperation agencies is very commendable.
The minister said these things at a bilateral agreement signing ceremony between the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance of the Government of Bangladesh and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dhaka on Sunday (24 May 2026).
Under this agreement, $1.4 billion in financing and cooperation will be ensured for 4 major projects aimed at the country’s economic management, social protection and infrastructure development.
The projects for which the agreement was signed are—
(1) Strengthening Economic Management and Governance Program (Subprogram 2)
(2) Second Strengthening Social Resilience Program (Subprogram 2)
(3) SASEC Dhaka-Sylhet Corridor Road Project
(4) Narayanganj Green and Resilient Urban Development Project
The Minister welcomed the President of the Asian Development Bank and the high-level delegation. He said that tomorrow (25 May 2026) during the meeting of the Honorable Prime Minister with the President of ADB, the Nationwide Integrated Development Project will be announced. This long-term project is in line with the election manifesto and development plan of the current government, which will make a major contribution to improving the destiny of the people of the country.
It was hoped that this long-term partnership between the Government of Bangladesh and ADB will play a stronger role in the sustainable economic and social development of the country in the future.
