To make the capital Dhaka a more modern, clean, green and livable city, emphasis has been placed on the coordinated efforts of the private sector and the city corporation. To this end, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG), one of the country’s largest business organizations, have expressed hope to work on the basis of mutual cooperation.
On Monday (August 17), during a courtesy call with ABG Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir at the DNCC office in Gulshan, various issues related to urban development and public services, including mutual interests, were discussed. DNCC Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton gave this information after the meeting.
The DNCC Administrator said that Bashundhara is a model residential area. ABG is one of the country’s most reputable business organizations and an important stakeholder of DNCC. The ABG Chairman came to the DNCC office at his invitation.
He said that urban development requires coordination from all parties. For this reason, various issues related to the interests of the city residents and mutual interests were discussed with the ABG Chairman.
Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton said that there are several important stakeholders in urban development. We want to develop this city more beautifully through the coordinated participation of everyone. Everyone’s cooperation is needed in urban development. As a large organization, Anvir Bashundhara Group has assured that it will cooperate with DNCC in urban development. Similarly, in the interest of public service, the City Corporation will also provide as much cooperation as possible.
Meanwhile, highlighting the activities of DNCC to control the dengue situation in the capital, the administrator said that preparations have been made in advance to prevent dengue. DNCC is following a zero tolerance policy in destroying Aedes mosquito larvae.
He said that strict monitoring is being carried out in 10 zones of DNCC through the task force formed for dengue prevention. In addition, regular mobile courts are being conducted to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes.
He also said that a quick drive is being conducted to identify Aedes mosquito larvae in various places including government offices and courts. If larvae are found anywhere, legal action is being taken through the mobile court and the concerned are being warned.
Stressing on the awareness of citizens to control mosquito breeding in homes, the DNCC administrator said that it is not possible for the city corporation to control mosquitoes by entering people’s homes. Therefore, every citizen should keep their own homes and surrounding courtyards clean. DNCC’s surveillance has also been increased on various institutions including government offices.
He also said that the regular application of mosquito repellents is continuing as per the previous plan of DNCC. Compared to the past, mosquitoes are currently under control in the city. However, after the rains and clouds end, potential mosquito hotspots will be identified and special mosquito control activities will be conducted in them.
