The Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee lost the West Bengal assembly seat. The party’s 15-year rule has come to an end. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is coming to power in Bengal for the first time after snatching a historic victory in the 2026 assembly elections.
According to unofficial results, the party is going to get a two-thirds majority. Outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lost to BJP leader Shuvendu Adhikari by a margin of more than 15,000 votes. Shuvendu Adhikari also won the Nandigram seat. Several ministers of the Trinamool Congress have also been defeated.
