Savor International Limited hosted a seminar titled “Electric Vehicle Industry of Bangladesh: Policy – Challenges – Prospects” at 3:30 PM on Friday (8 November, 2024) at Hall 4, Bashundhara Convention Center (ICCB). The event gathered key industry leaders, government officials, and academic experts to discuss the future of the electric vehicle (EV) industry in Bangladesh, focusing on policy frameworks, industry challenges, and growth opportunities for sustainable transportation.
Prominent attendees included Mr. Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the Information and Communication Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology, Mr. Abdul Matlub Ahmad, President of both the Bangladesh Automobiles Assemblers and Manufacturers Association (BAAMA) and Bangladesh Electric Mobility Association (BEMA), Mr. Hafizur Rahman Khan, President of BAAMA, Mr. Sk. Aminuddin, Director at Akij Group & CEO of Akij Motors, Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice Chancellor of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Md. Ehsan, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at BUET, Mr. Tahsin Aman, Chairperson of Ensec Limited, and Ms. Nasima Jahan B. Binty, Managing Director of Blue Solutions Ltd.
Discussions centered on the government’s role in policy support for EV adoption, infrastructure needs, and investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s evolving EV market. Panelists highlighted the environmental benefits of electric vehicles in reducing emissions and promoting sustainability. Mr. Abdul Matlub Ahmad emphasized the need for cohesive policy support, stating, “Bangladesh is on the cusp of an electric revolution. Strategic policy decisions will be essential to making electric mobility accessible and affordable.”
In addition, experts called for collaborations between government, private sector, and academia to address infrastructural challenges, such as establishing charging stations and battery disposal facilities, and to promote research on EV technology. Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque shared insights on the role of academic institutions in advancing EV technology and the potential for creating a skilled workforce.
The seminar concluded with a call for continued dialogue among stakeholders to ensure the smooth integration of EVs into Bangladesh’s transportation landscape, positioning the country toward a cleaner, greener future.
