Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin emphasized the need to work towards transforming society into one that upholds dignity. He also highlighted the critical role of journalists in achieving this goal.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a scholarship cheque distribution ceremony for the children of deceased members of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). The event was held on Saturday (November 23, 2024), at the Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium.

The Commerce Advisor noted that in the past 15 years, a culture of criminalization had developed in the country, leaving society deeply divided and people across all sectors gripped by fear.
Addressing the recent drop in prices of essential commodities, he mentioned efforts to stabilize the market ahead of Ramadan, ensuring a balance between demand and supply. He sought the cooperation and prayers of journalists in this endeavor.
He remarked that the prices of sugar, oil, and onions have already decreased, thanks to collective efforts, and further improvements are underway.
Describing knowledge acquisition as a continuous process, he urged students to work hard in their pursuit of knowledge and remain determined in achieving their goals.
The event was presided over by DRU President Md. Shukur Ali Shuvo. Special guests included NRBC Bank Director and Chairman of the Risk Management Committee, AKM Mostafizur Rahman, and Managing Director & CEO Md. Rabiul Islam. DRU General Secretary Mohi Uddin delivered the welcome address.
