10,000 more constables to be appointed soon: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that 10,000 more constables will be appointed soon after receiving the clearance from the Finance Ministry.

The minister made this known to journalists at the Home Ministry on Thursday (February 26, 2026) at a briefing.

The Home Minister said that instructions have been given for the rapid appointment of 180 vacant posts of police sergeants. Appointments to these posts will be made soon through appropriate examinations. Apart from this, Sub-Inspectors (SIs) and Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) will be appointed through BCS.

Salahuddin Ahmed also said that law and order committees have been reconstituted at the district and upazila levels across the country. An office order in this regard was issued by the Home Ministry today. He said that instructions have been given to make plans and carry out work as planned to maintain the law and order situation normal.
