The Chief Advisor said this while speaking as the chief guest at an award ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city on Monday (December 9, 2024) on the occasion of the 144th birth and 92nd death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain.
Four women have been awarded the Begum Rokeya Medal-2024 for their outstanding contribution to society, women’s education and women’s empowerment. Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus handed over the medals to these women or their representatives.
The medals were distributed by Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the Begum Rokeya Medal presentation ceremony. The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs organized the event to celebrate Begum Rokeya Day 2024 and distribute the Begum Rokeya Medal.
The awardees are Parveen Hasan, an educationist and rights activist, Chairperson of Transparency International Bangladesh and Vice Chancellor of the Central Women’s University; Taslima Akhtar, a labor and women’s rights activist and photographer; Rani Hamid, the first female international chess master of Bangladesh; and Shirin Parveen Haque, founder of women’s rights organization Nari Paksha.
Each of the awardees received a gold medal, a certificate, and a check of four lakh taka.
