Prime Minister Tarique Rahman calls for further strengthening of Japan’s cooperation in investment and infrastructure development in Bangladesh

Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan UNO Yoshimasa paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The meeting, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat at 12:30 pm on Tuesday (July 28, 2026), resulted in fruitful discussions on various issues related to further strengthening the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and Japan, increasing investment, human resource development and expanding bilateral economic cooperation.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called for Japan to take initiatives to recruit skilled health workers, agricultural workers and drivers from Bangladesh by acquiring proficiency in the Japanese language. He said that trained and language-savvy manpower can play an important role in meeting the needs of the Japanese labor market.

The Prime Minister called for further increasing Japanese investment in Bangladesh and said that the government will provide all-out support to establish new industrial parks in different parts of the country, such as the industrial park established in Araihajar, Narayanganj.

The meeting also discussed the inauguration of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on December 16, the progress of the ongoing MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) project, and further strengthening Bangladesh-Japan infrastructure cooperation.

Both sides expressed hope to further strengthen the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries and expand mutual cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure development, and skilled human resource development.
