UN Secretary-General reiterates unwavering support and solidarity for Bangladesh

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has reiterated the UN’s unwavering support and solidarity for Bangladesh. He made the assurance during a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman at the UN Headquarters in New York.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly formed Bangladesh government. He highly appreciated Bangladesh’s consistent humanitarian leadership and generosity in providing shelter to the displaced Rohingya population.

The meeting had a detailed discussion on various contemporary global issues. The Foreign Minister highlighted the challenges faced by developing and vulnerable countries in the context of the ongoing global oil crisis and its disproportionate and discriminatory impact on poor countries.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister invited the Secretary-General to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time. The Secretary-General warmly accepted the invitation and expressed his gratitude for it.

At the end of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations to address global challenges and advance sustainable development.
