The country’s 25th Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed retired

Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, the 25th Chief Justice of Bangladesh, retired today (December 27, 2025) after completing 67 years of age according to the constitution. His term of office was one year and four and a half months.

Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has already been appointed as the country’s 26th Chief Justice. Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury will take oath as the 26th Chief Justice on Sunday (December 28).

Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed took oath as the 25th Chief Justice of Bangladesh after the mass uprising on August 11, 2024.
