On Sunday (June 21, 2026) at 11:30 am, at the Opposition Leader’s Office at the National Parliament Building, the Honorable Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Nicholas Weeks, paid a courtesy call and meeting with the Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
The Ambassador was accompanied by the First Secretary of the Embassy, Ms. Matilda Svensson, and the Second Secretary and Head of the Department of Commerce, Politics and Communications, Mr. Ole Lundin.
The meeting, held in a sincere, cordial and warm atmosphere, discussed the overall post-election situation in Bangladesh, bilateral relations, investment prospects and various issues of international interest. Both sides expressed their hope that the relations between Sweden and Bangladesh will further strengthen in the future and Swedish investment will increase.
The meeting also discussed the July Charter, implementation of the referendum verdict, the potential impact of the discussed ordinances, the proposed budget, tax structure reform, sustainable solutions to the Rohingya problem, and various development projects funded by Sweden in Bangladesh.
Barrister Mir Ahmed bin Kasem Arman MP, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Leader of the Opposition, and Ali Ahmed Mabrur, Member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, were present at the time.
