Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said that plans are being made to procure all types of vaccines and equipment from the next fiscal year, keeping in mind the demand for 15 months. It will also be ensured that we always have six months of vaccines in stock and that no crisis arises. Under the prudence and guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, we have already started the measles-rubella vaccination campaign.
The minister said these things as the chief guest at the inauguration of the ‘Nationwide Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign-2026’ organized at Little Angels Seminary School adjacent to Zinda Park in Rupganj, Narayanganj on Monday (April 20, 2026).
The minister said that our children lack nutrition. The most effective medicine for children is mother’s milk. Many mothers do not breastfeed their children for various reasons. He urged mothers to breastfeed their children.
At that time, the Health Minister announced the expansion of the Rupganj Upazila Health Complex from 50 beds to 100 beds.
The event was attended by Narayanganj-1 MP Mustafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu, Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Dhaka Megan Baldin, UNICEF Bangladesh Deputy Representative Emmanuelle Abrieuux, World Health Organization Bangladesh Deputy Representative Dr. Rajesh Narwal, Director General of the Department of Health Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Raihan Kabir, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Mashiur Rahman and others.
Later, the Health Minister inspected the activities of the ‘Nationwide Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026’ at the Light Fair School Center in Shahjadpur in the capital and spoke to the parents. At that time, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen, Special Envoy from the United States Charles Harder, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Rana Flower and other relevant officials were present.
