The situation surrounding the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) march in Gopalganj is now largely calm and under control, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.).
The advisor said this while talking to reporters at the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday (July 17, 2025) afternoon.
The advisor said that after the incidents of vandalism, arson and cocktail explosions at the NCP rally yesterday, a curfew has been imposed in Gopalganj from 8 pm yesterday to 6 pm today. The situation is now normal. He said that so far 25 people have been arrested and brought under the law in the Gopalganj incident. He also said that 10 of our policemen were injured in the incident. 2 of the injured have already been taken to the Central Police Hospital. 3 more injured policemen are also being taken to Rajarbagh Hospital.

Responding to journalists’ questions about the NCP leaders’ allegations about the role of law enforcement in the incident, the advisor said that the law enforcement has been given proper instructions in this regard and they are making every effort. Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that all kinds of preparations will be made so that such incidents do not happen again in the future. Those who have done wrong are being arrested and will be arrested. There is no question of giving any concession to anyone. He said that the operation will continue until all the criminals are caught. The advisor thanked the journalists and the concerned TV channels for broadcasting the Gopalganj incident live.
Earlier, the advisor went to the Central Police Hospital in Rajarbagh in the capital to see the police members injured in the Gopalganj incident.
