Bangladesh committed to ensuring women’s empowerment and justice: Dr. Khalilur Rahman

Desk Report:

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman reiterated Bangladesh’s strong commitment to women’s equal rights and empowerment. He said this while addressing the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Tuesday (17 March 2026) morning.

Reiterating Bangladesh’s full commitment to advancing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the Foreign Minister stressed that ensuring justice for women and girls is one of Bangladesh’s top priorities. He noted that justice must be open to all women and girls, regardless of their identity or socio-economic status, so that they can access legal protection without fear and without any hindrance.

The Foreign Minister also said that the important contribution of Bangladeshi women in UN peacekeeping operations is particularly noteworthy. Dr. Rahman further noted that climate change, economic instability, conflict and the digital divide are creating new barriers, which particularly affect women in rural and vulnerable communities. To address these challenges, Bangladesh proposes to strengthen the justice system through women’s leadership and increase regional and international cooperation to combat human trafficking.

It is worth noting that the 70th session of the United Nations on the Status of Women is being held in New York from 9-19 March 2026, which emphasizes ensuring access to justice for all women and girls, repealing discriminatory laws and removing structural barriers.
