A 10-storey building with a state-of-the-art laboratory was inaugurated in Agrabad, Chittagong with the aim of quality control of products, trade facilitation and providing services quickly. Today, Saturday (June 28, 2025), BSTI’s newly built divisional office was inaugurated by Shaheed Faisal Ahmed Shanto’s mother Mrs. Kohinur Akhter in the 2024 student uprising.
Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman, BSTI Director General S. M. Ferdous Alam, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam and Additional Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Md. Shahjalal Chowdhury were present at the inauguration ceremony.
At the inauguration ceremony, Shaheed Faisal Ahmed Shanto’s mother, Mosha Kohinur Akhter, said, Shanto dreamed of a beautiful, exploitation-free and just Bangladesh. He wanted the fundamental rights of every citizen of this country to be ensured, and the talent and labor of every youth to be properly evaluated. May the goal for which my son was martyred be fulfilled. She also said, I am a mother, a martyred mother. My son has left me, but his ideals, his fighting spirit, will remain eternally alive in my heart.
As the main speaker at the ceremony, Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan said, BSTI has been playing a leading role in the country’s economic development, the dynamism of industry and trade, and the protection of consumer rights. Today, with the inauguration of this state-of-the-art laboratory, the dynamism in import and export in the port city of Chittagong will increase. In stages, BSTI’s laboratory in Chittagong will be developed as a self-sufficient laboratory. As a result, the people of Chittagong will not need to go to Dhaka for BSTI services. He expressed optimism that this will advance the industry and trade of the region in global competition and further strengthen consumer protection.
Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman said, BSTI is working in the field of producing quality products within the country and importing quality products. Agreements on product quality with different countries and accreditation of laboratories have further strengthened BSTI. As a result, the acceptance of Bangladeshi products abroad is increasing.
In his welcome speech, BSTI Director General SM Ferdous Alam said, the inauguration of BSTI’s 10-storey building with its state-of-the-art laboratory in Chittagong is a milestone. We want to test and certify all products from here. As a result, businessmen and general buyers of the region will also benefit.
Also present at the inauguration ceremony were businessmen from Chittagong, representatives of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, officials from the Ministry of Industries and BSTI.
