SCP Alumni Gathering Held to Strengthen Singapore-Bangladesh Cooperation

Diplomatic Desk:

As part of Singapore’s 61st National Day celebrations, the Singapore High Commission in Dhaka hosted an alumni dinner to mark the 34th anniversary of the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP). The event, held at the Sheraton Dhaka in the capital on Thursday (13 August 2026), was attended by around 75 Bangladeshi SCP alumni who have participated in various training programmes in Singapore.

Nasreen Jahan, Member (Secretary) of the Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division of the Bangladesh Planning Commission, was present as the chief guest at the event. In her speech, she highlighted the importance of continued cooperation and capacity building between Bangladesh and Singapore. She also appreciated the positive contribution of the Singapore Cooperation Programme in developing the skills of Bangladeshi government officials and strengthening cooperative partnerships.

Charge d’Affaires of the Singapore High Commission, Mitchell Lee, spoke at the event. He reiterated Singapore’s commitment to the development of partner countries through capacity building and knowledge exchange. At the same time, he expressed his gratitude to the SCP alumni for their contributions as ‘ambassadors of SCP’ in their respective fields.

Mitchell Lee said that the celebration of Singapore’s 61st National Day and the 34th anniversary of the Singapore Cooperation Programme provides an opportunity to further advance Bangladesh-Singapore cooperation. He expressed his hope that the two countries will strengthen cooperation through more training, people-to-people contacts and various partnerships in the future.

The event emerged as an important platform to celebrate the long-standing friendly relations between Singapore and Bangladesh, as well as to recognize the active and vibrant network of SCP alumni who have made significant contributions to the development and public service of Bangladesh.

Since its inception in 1992, the Singapore Cooperation Programme has trained more than 160,000 government officials from more than 180 countries around the world. Of these, more than 2,200 government officials from Bangladesh have participated in SCP training programmes at various times.

At the alumni dinner, former trainees came together after a long time to share their experiences and highlight how the knowledge and perspectives gained through training in Singapore have played a positive role in their professional lives and public service. At the same time, emphasis was placed on further strengthening the professional communication and collaboration network developed through SCP.
