Chief Whip of the Bangladesh National Parliament, Md. Nurul Islam, said that during the previous government, control of 98 percent of Bangladesh’s gas was handed over to a special country. The country is currently facing a gas crisis due to such suicidal decisions and energy mismanagement by the autocratic government. He expressed hope that the people’s government will be able to eliminate the country’s power and energy crisis with everyone’s help.
The Chief Whip made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Party on Saturday (August 15, 2026) at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club in the capital to mark the 2nd anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.
The Chief Whip said that in the past, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party has overcome various crises in the country and brought the country to a stable state. At this time, he recalled the regime of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and said that when the country was suffering from famine, he took charge and turned the country into a food exporting country in just three years. The government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will also be able to put the country with a fragile economy on a strong economic foundation. However, for this, everyone’s cooperation is needed to run the country properly.
At the meeting, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam said that during the previous regime, about 30 lakh crore taka was laundered from the country. With this huge amount of laundered money, it was possible to provide several national budgets of the country. National unity is needed to bring the country out of the process of systematically weakening the country’s economy and state institutions for a long time.
The Chief Whip said that dictatorship has not only taken away people’s freedom of speech, but has also destroyed people’s hopes and dreams. The expectations that people had about the future and the dreams that they had for a beautiful future were destroyed in a well-planned manner.
He said, even after 54 years of independence, we have not yet been able to give democracy a proper institutional form. To make democracy strong and institutional, we must ensure the people’s right to food, freedom of expression and accountability of state institutions.
The Chief Whip also said that in the last five and a half months, the current government under the guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reduced the suffering and cries of the people of the country compared to the past. The government is working tirelessly to deal with various crises by standing by the side of the common people.
Regarding the martyrs and injured of the July Uprising, the Chief Whip said, the government will ensure all-out cooperation for the families of the martyrs of July. At the same time, necessary medical treatment will be provided to the injured and employment arrangements will be made according to their qualifications.
