Russian Embassy in Dhaka Celebrates Russia Day with a Colorful Reception

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh hosted a grand reception to celebrate Russia Day. The vibrant event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, journalists, politicians, academics, entrepreneurs, and distinguished guests from various walks of life.

Ambassador of Russia to Bangladesh, Mr. Alexander Khozin, delivered the welcome address. He highlighted Russia’s immense natural wealth, scientific capabilities, and rich cultural heritage. Ambassador Khozin emphasized Russia’s commitment to an independent and balanced foreign policy aimed at creating an equal and indivisible security architecture in Eurasia.

Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, and Ministry of Railways, spoke as the chief guest of the event. He recalled the strong foundation of Bangladesh-Russia relations and expressed hope for further deepening bilateral cooperation in the energy and agricultural sectors.

A cultural highlight of the event was a performance by the renowned Moscow-based “Russian Song Ensemble,” who mesmerized the audience with traditional Russian songs infused with a modern flair. The performance was organized by Russia’s state corporation, Rosatom, which is currently constructing Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant in Rooppur, Pabna.

This year, the celebration of Russia Day holds special significance as 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of Russia’s atomic industry—an emblem of scientific progress and national sovereignty. Russian and Bangladeshi engineers and specialists are working hand-in-hand to complete the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, with the first unit expected to be commissioned by the end of this year.

Guests at the reception also had the opportunity to explore the exhibition titled “The Images of Russian History,” featuring 30 reproductions of masterpieces that depict significant milestones in Russia’s historical journey.

Ambassador Khozin said, “Russia Day is a reflection of our glorious history and cultural heritage. At the same time, we look to the future with optimism. We firmly believe that Bangladesh-Russia relations will become stronger and mutual cooperation will bring peace and stability to the world.”

Ambassador Khozin emphasized that for over 50 years, relations between Russia and Bangladesh have been grounded in friendship, equality, and mutual respect. He noted that Bangladesh is now Russia’s second-largest trading partner in South Asia, with bilateral trade consistently exceeding $2 billion. Wheat, fertilizers, and energy cooperation are key areas of exchange, with Gazprom having drilled 20 gas wells and discovered two fields in Bhola.

The reception reaffirmed the deepening ties between Bangladesh and Russia, celebrating a partnership rooted in shared goals and a vision for a prosperous, peaceful future.
