State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has said that Bangladesh needs to reduce import dependency by increasing production to meet the demand for milk and dairy products. He said that the government will take necessary steps to increase the scope of milk production in order to achieve export capacity abroad in the future.
He said these things as the chief guest at a discussion program organized on the occasion of World Milk Day 2026 at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital on Monday (June 1, 2026). This year’s theme was ‘Women Farmers in Milk Production: Progress in Development’.
The State Minister said that increasing the participation of women entrepreneurs will accelerate the economic development of the country. If women are strong, the country will also be stronger economically. The active participation of women in various fields, including dairy farms, is very promising for the current society. He said that the participation of women in the dairy sector is very commendable. Therefore, more training and cooperation should be ensured to improve their skills. Stressing on increasing government support according to the needs of farmers, he said that if an entrepreneur is successful, the country’s economy also benefits.
The State Minister said, “I will do the work, build the country, Bangladesh first” – everyone involved in the development of the livestock sector should work responsibly with this conviction. If everyone fulfills their respective responsibilities properly, it is possible to take the country further and build a prosperous Bangladesh.
The program was chaired by the Director General of the Department of Livestock Md. Shahzaman Khan, and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry Md. Imam Uddin Kabir spoke as a special guest. The keynote speech was presented by the Director of the Department of Livestock Dr. Md. Boyzar Rahman and the Director of the Department Dr. Begum Shamshunnahar Ahmed delivered the welcome speech.
Earlier, the State Minister distributed milk among the orphan students of the madrasa in the premises of the Department of Livestock. Later, a rally started from the Department of Livestock and ended at the KIB premises via Khamarbari intersection. State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku distributed milk among the poor and helpless people in front of the Livestock Building by the Veterinary Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (VAB). At that time, VAB Acting President Dr. Abdur Rahim and Secretary General Dr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed were present.
In the afternoon, the State Minister visited the head office of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) in Karwan Bazar. During this time, he toured the activities of various departments and exchanged views with the concerned officers and employees.
Addressing the officers and employees, the State Minister said that to make the activities of the corporation more dynamic and effective, they must perform their duties with honesty and devotion. People have high expectations from the current government. If the officers and employees perform their duties sincerely, the government will be able to fulfill the expectations of the people.
