Desk Report:
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the Peelkhana massacre will be properly judged so that such incidents do not happen again in the future. This massacre was an attempt to weaken the army. Only those who do not believe in the independence and sovereignty of the country can do this.
The minister made these remarks while briefing journalists after laying wreaths at the Banani Military Cemetery in the capital on the occasion of National Martyrs’ Day on Wednesday (February 25, 2026).
The minister said that the Peelkhana massacre is one of the most brutal incidents not only in Bangladesh but also in the history of the world. Although the then government formed an investigation committee to find out what the main motive was behind it, its results have not been published to this day. A National Independent Investigation Commission was formed in this regard during the interim government, whose report has come before us.
He said, we will not form a new investigation commission. The interim government formed the investigation commission with appropriate people. The recommendations in the commission’s report and the judicial processes of the cases that are under trial will be completed. Other recommendations will be implemented step by step.
The minister also said that today is the National Martyr Army Day being observed with state honors. On this occasion, the President, Prime Minister, the chiefs of the three services, the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the family members of the martyrs paid tribute by placing wreaths at the Banani graveyard.
Iftar, prayer mahfil and discussion meeting will be held at the cantonment this afternoon on this occasion. He said, those who gave their lives to protect the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh will be remembered forever.
The chiefs of the three services, the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were present at the press briefing.
