Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the Prime Minister will inaugurate a groundbreaking program to issue ‘Family Card’ in the name of female head of household. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh will inaugurate the Family Card at the T&T Playground (adjacent to Karail Slum) in Banani on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 10:00 am.
The Minister said these things at a press conference organized by the Prime Minister to inaugurate the ‘Family Card’ distribution and implementation program at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance on Monday (March 9, 2026).
The Minister said that women’s empowerment, ensuring women’s rights, dignity and economic independence is one of the government’s commitments to achieve national development and social justice. Therefore, the Prime Minister is implementing a groundbreaking program to provide ‘Family Cards’ in the name of female heads of families with the aim of bringing the economic benefits of Bangladesh to the doorsteps of the country’s marginalized communities.
He said that first, the female heads of the poorest families among us are being brought under the Family Card program. In phases, family cards will be delivered to the female heads of every middle-class and upper-class family.
The Minister said that corruption occurs in the delivery of allowance programs implemented under our social safety net. There is no scope for politicization and no scope for corruption in the implementation of the Family Card program. The government is determined to implement this program transparently and efficiently. The Prime Minister has created an opportunity to improve the living standards of the poorest families. The Prime Minister has taken up this project with courage. If we think of making our country a welfare state, then let us all cooperate to make this program of the Prime Minister successful.
At the event, Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain discussed the distribution and implementation of the ‘Family Card’ in detail. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Advisor to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Miz Farzana Sharmin, State Minister for Social Welfare, Mir Shahe Alam, Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Rehan Asif Asad (in the rank of State Minister) of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology and Science and Technology were present at the event. Secretaries and officials of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Social Welfare were also present.
