Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman held a courtesy meeting with Julie Bishop, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar, in New York.
The meeting took place on Tuesday (September 22, 2026) at the Hyatt Grand Central Hotel, where the Prime Minister was staying to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Discussions during the meeting focused on finding a sustainable solution to the crisis concerning the Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh and the effective role the international community could play in resolving this issue.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman sought the cooperation of the international community to ensure the safe, dignified, and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas.

The Prime Minister stated that a permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis requires the creation of a conducive environment in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, alongside effective and coordinated initiatives by the international community.
Views were exchanged on various related matters, including the Rohingya crisis, during the meeting.
