Prime Minister Tarique Rahman orders formation of three-member high-level committee to ensure safe food

Desk Report:

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the formation of a three-member high-level committee to quickly identify and resolve problems of institutions conducting safe food, product quality control and anti-adulteration campaigns.

He gave this instruction at a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office at 3:30 pm on Monday (July 6, 2026) at the Bangladesh Secretariat with officials conducting anti-adulteration campaigns and mobile courts at the field level, including the Department of Consumer Rights, Bangladesh Safe Food Authority, BSTI and City Corporation.

The Prime Minister directed the committee to identify the quickly solvable and long-term problems of the relevant institutions and submit a report with necessary recommendations within the next one month.

As per the Prime Minister’s instructions, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Public Administration Ismail Zabiullah, State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari and Cabinet Secretary Dr. The three-member high-level committee will be formed with Nasimul Gani as a member.

In the meeting, officials from the Department of Consumer Rights, Food Safety Authority and BSTI presented various obstacles to the Prime Minister in conducting their activities. They mentioned the need to increase manpower at the district level, set up modern laboratories, provide advanced equipment for conducting field operations, and ensure security during operations against various syndicates and influential groups. They also demanded further expansion of the powers of mobile courts.

After listening carefully to the officials, the Prime Minister assured them of quick resolution of their problems and directed the formation of a high-level committee to formulate effective recommendations in this regard.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister said, “There will be problems. Even then, we have to move forward through those problems. We cannot sit idly by. Many countries in the world were once less developed than us, but today they have come a long way. We also have to move forward. If everyone works together sincerely, that is definitely possible. Everyone has to be more responsible and aware in the interest of the country.”

Stressing on public awareness, the Prime Minister said, “Many of our lakes are being filled with garbage. It is sad but true that these garbage are being dumped by educated people of the society. Those who are supposed to be aware, many times are not aware. To change the country, not only the government’s initiative is needed, but also the goodwill and responsibility of the citizens. Everyone must come forward with awareness.”

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister’s Advisor on Public Administration Ismail Zabiullah, State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Dr. Nasimul Ghani, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Abdus Sattar, Commerce Secretary Ataur Rahman Khan, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon and BSTI Director General Kazi Imdadul Haque.
