Chinese Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on Opposition Leader

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, paid a courtesy call and meeting with the Leader of the Opposition in the Bangladesh National Parliament, Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, MP, at his office at his residence on Tuesday (July 7, 2026).

At the time, the Chinese Ambassador was accompanied by Zhang Jing, Director of the Political Section of the Chinese Embassy, ​​and Mr. Ru Qi, Political Attaché. The meeting was held in a very cordial and cordial atmosphere.

During the meeting, both of them had a cordial and fruitful discussion on various issues related to the mutual interests of Bangladesh and China. They expressed hope that the economic, political, commercial, diplomatic and friendly relations between the two countries would further strengthen in the coming days. They also expressed hope that both countries would work together to further accelerate the trend of bilateral cooperation, development and progress.

Also, detailed discussions were held on the Teesta Barrage Master Plan, China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor and various proposed projects of China in Bangladesh. The opposition leader sought the cooperation of the Chinese government in the immediate resolution of the Rohingya problem and the return of the Rohingya population.

The importance of the long-standing historical friendship between Bangladesh and China was highlighted in the meeting. This friendship has been playing a very important role in the welfare of the people of the two countries, development cooperation, expansion of mutual trade and cultural exchanges, and they expressed their hope that this relationship will be deeper and more multidimensional in the future.

Also present at the meeting were Barrister Mir Ahmad bin Qasem Arman, MP, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Opposition Leader, and Ali Ahmad Mabrur, Member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee.
