He made this call in a brief speech at an Iftar Mahfil organized at the invitation of the opposition party Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the parliament at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Agargaon in the capital on Saturday (February 28, 2026).
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, “Let us seek the mercy of Allah, through which Allah will give us the ability to work to change the fate of the people of this country, to change the fate of this country.”

At the Iftar Mahfil, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman sat at the same table and had Iftar. Top leaders of BNP and Jamaat were also present with them.
Thanking the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami for inviting her to the Iftar, the Prime Minister said, “Let us take an oath in the name of Allah in this Iftar gathering that our future work will be for changing the destiny of the people of this country.”
She also said, “The people of Bangladesh are looking at all of us today with many expectations, aspirations and hopes. Especially looking at the political parties.”
Referring to the current context of the country, the Prime Minister said, “We have come together at an important time. A few days ago, elections were held in the country. The journey of democracy has begun through these elections. For which the people of Bangladesh have sacrificed for a long time, given their lives, and been subjected to torture and persecution.”
She said, “In exchange for so much sacrifice, we have regained the opportunity to exercise freedom of speech and expression and democratic rights. Let us offer our thanks to Allah.’
