Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the police will not work as a lathi-force of any particular party or group, but rather the police should be a true friend of the people and a symbol of security. The main goal of the current government is to ensure public safety and transform the police force into a modern, efficient and humane service-oriented organization by completely freeing it from party influence.
The minister said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘27th BCS (Police) Batch 1st Stage Training Closing Parade’ program at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi district on Sunday (August 2, 2026) morning.
The minister said that the government has taken various steps to rebuild the morale of the police force, which was damaged due to extreme partyization during the past fascist regime. He said that the policy of rewards and reprimands based on honesty and discipline has been strictly introduced to restore the professionalism of the force. He said that just as bravery and commendable deeds are being rewarded, punitive action is being taken against those involved in crimes or breaches of discipline.
The Minister congratulated the new officers participating in the parade and said that today’s joyful moment should have come in their lives long ago. The limitless deprivation and inhumane pain that they have endured for 18 long years as victims of the revenge of the previous dictatorial and fascist governments is very painful. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the officers on regaining their fair rights and status after the fall of the dictatorial regime.
Addressing the new ASP probationers, the Minister said that you are entering professional life during a historic transformation of the country. He said that in the eyes of the law, from road workers to marginal farmers, everyone is equal. One must always be vigilant that no one is subjected to any kind of discrimination while availing services. He also said that chain of command, discipline, loyalty and integrated leadership are the main strengths of the force.
The minister also said that in the current era of information technology, new officers must acquire the highest technical knowledge in cyber security and crime investigation. The government has adopted a zero tolerance policy against corruption, so all police members must perform their duties with honesty and integrity.
The minister expressed hope that the members of the 27th BCS (Police) Batch 1st Stage will further enrich the Bangladesh Police Force by utilizing the knowledge, wisdom and experience they have acquired in various professions over the past 18 years. He called on the new ASP probationers to fulfill their duties in accordance with the people’s expectations and aspirations in building a peaceful, developed and democratic Bangladesh, respecting the spirit of the Liberation War and the sacrifices of the martyrs of the 2024 student uprising.
Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, local parliamentarians, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy GM Azizur Rahman, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. A. N. M. Bazlur Rashid, DIG of Rajshahi Range Md. Ashiq Sayeed. In addition, senior military and civilian officials and invited guests from home and abroad, guardians of ASP probationers and journalists from various media outlets were present at the event.
The minister inspected the parade and received greetings at the event. He distributed awards among the trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police who excelled in various subjects.
It is worth noting that in this year’s training parade, trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police Dr. Md. Nurul Huda Bhuiyan, trainee Assistant Superintendent of Police ABM Mamun won the honor of being the best shooter and Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam won the best academic award. Assistant Superintendent of Police Dr. Md. Nurul Huda Bhuiyan was the best in all subjects and the best probationer. A total of 58 trainees, including 57 of the 27th BCS (Police) batch 1st stage and 01 of the 28th BCS (Police) batch, entered real working life through today’s training graduation parade.
Later, in a news briefing, regarding the recent law and order situation and the recovery of explosive-like objects in Ashulia and Motijheel, the Home Minister said that the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) and DMP’s bomb disposal team have safely deactivated the objects. Stating that the overall law and order situation is completely under the control of the government, the minister further said that the matter is being investigated seriously. He said that comparatively, the rate of criminal tendencies or subversive activities in the country is currently very low. Nevertheless, the government is on alert.
