Peace, Order, and Sanctity Must Be Maintained at Puja Mandaps: Home Affairs Adviser

Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser on Home Affairs, has stated that ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja, it is essential to maintain peace and order at the puja mandaps while also preserving their sanctity. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies are deployed to ensure peace and order. However, the responsibility of safeguarding the sanctity of the mandaps rests with the public—everyone. Since this is a religious festival, although it is celebrated by the Hindu community, people of all religions come to witness it. Therefore, everyone must remain vigilant to ensure that no one enters the mandap with shoes or engages in any activities that could desecrate the rituals.

The Adviser made these remarks on Saturday (20 September 2025) in the afternoon while delivering the keynote speech during his visit to the Sri Sri Sarbajanin Kali and Durga Mandir at Konokshar, Louhajang, Munshiganj.

He mentioned that this year, the government grant for Durga Puja has been increased to 50 million BDT. During the tenure of the fascist Awami League government, grants for Durga Puja were limited to 20 million BDT. He added that each puja committee is expected to assign seven members to manage responsibilities at every mandap. He stressed that they must ensure proper oversight of overall mandap security. Additionally, Ansar members will regularly perform duties during the last five days of Durga Puja.

Later, the Adviser visited the Sarbajanin Sri Sri Radha Gobinda and Kali Mandir in South Mashdgaon, Louhajang. He also inspected the proposed park site owned by the Upazila Parishad near the Padma River at Ghodraur Bazar in Teutia Union, Louhajang.
