Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurates ‘Family Card’ distribution program

The government has launched ‘Family Card’ for female-headed households in the country as a new groundbreaking initiative to ensure women’s empowerment, economic liberation and social justice.

This Tuesday (March 10, 2026) morning, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman officially inaugurated this ‘Family Card’ program by pressing a button on his laptop at the T&T playground (adjacent to the Karail slum) in the capital.

With the inauguration, allowances have reached the bank accounts or mobile financial services of various female-headed households in the country. Later, the Prime Minister directly distributed family cards among 17 women. His wife Zubaida Rahman and Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain were present at the time.

Family cards are being distributed on an experimental basis from today in the following areas of the capital – Karail slum, Sattala slum, Bhasan Tech slum, Mirpur Circle or Shah Ali’s Ward-8, Alimia Tech slum (Ward-14) and Baganbari slum area.

It has been stated that through this initiative of the government, it will be possible to ensure the financial and social security of female-headed families, increase their empowerment and create fair opportunities in the society.
