Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka gives special message in ‘Special January, 2026 Edition’ of “Business in Bangladesh Newsletter” on the occasion of English New Year

As we welcome the New Year 2026, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to the brotherly people of Bangladesh and the readers of Business in Bangladesh.

The year 2025 turned a new page in Pakistan–Bangladesh relations, which are deeply rooted in shared history, faith, culture and familial ties. In line with the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, bilateral engagement gained strong momentum culminating into the landmark visit of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, to Dhaka and signing of 8 MoUs / undertaking of cooperation during the year.

Bilateral trade grew by 20 percent in FY 2024–25, supported by visits of sectoral delegations from Pakistan, business forums, participation in major trade exhibitions, and signing of frameworks for rice, halal products and broader trade cooperation. During the 9th session of the Joint Economic Commission meeting, both sides explored numerous avenues to harness the full potential of trade and economic cooperation. Growing collaboration in fashion, tourism including medical tourism and the anticipated resumption of direct flights further reflect this positive trajectory.

People-to-people, cultural and educational exchanges remained central to the renewed partnership. The launch of the Pakistan Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor under which fully funded Allama Iqbal scholarships programme introduced by Pakistan offering higher education to 500 Bangladeshi students in leading Pakistani universities, stands as a flagship initiative for long-term cooperation.

As Bangladesh advances toward its vision of economic prosperity, Pakistan
remains committed to deepening this partnership on the basis of mutual respect
and shared interests.

I take this opportunity to commend Business in Bangladesh for its valuable contribution to regional economic discourse and wish the publication continued success in the year ahead.

Warm regards and best wishes for a prosperous New Year.
