The government has taken special initiatives to provide assistance to farmers of six districts of Haor region affected by sudden tidal surges—Netrokona, Kishoreganj, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Habiganj—in preserving and selling Boro paddy and rice. To this end, the pre-scheduled date of rice collection will be brought forward to May 15 and paddy and rice collection activities will be started from May 3 from farmers of Haor region.
On the other hand, paddy and rice collection activities will start from May 3 and May 15 from farmers of other districts of the country as per the pre-scheduled schedule.
The government will purchase 1.8 million metric tons of paddy and rice from the domestic market in the upcoming Boro season. Out of this, 5 million metric tons of paddy, 1.2 million metric tons of parboiled rice and 1 million metric tons of parboiled rice will be purchased. The procurement price of paddy has been fixed at 36 taka per kg, parboiled rice at 49 taka and parboiled rice at 48 taka per kg. Along with paddy and rice, 50,000 metric tons of wheat will also be purchased at 36 taka.
This procurement drive will continue till August 31.
