No one can stop people if they are election-oriented: Home Affairs Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, the people play the biggest role in any election. They are the biggest factor. Moreover, the people of our country are very aware of the election. Discussions about the election have already started in neighborhoods and tea shops. The election atmosphere is prevailing and the people are election-oriented. And no one can stop people if they are election-oriented.

The Adviser said these things while briefing journalists after the handover ceremony of 20 new vehicles (double cabin pickups) purchased in the revenue sector to the DMP at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Headquarters premises in Ramna in the capital on Wednesday (October 08, 2025) afternoon.

The Adviser said that the law enforcement agencies are ready for the national election and their training is ongoing step by step. We will all make efforts to ensure that the election is held in a free, safe, impartial, peaceful and festive atmosphere. Stating that the number of crimes and attacks on the police are decreasing, he said, the root of everything is the people. They are gradually becoming more aware than before. When the people understand that these incidents or crimes are bad, they will come forward to remedy them.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said, the number of police vehicles is less than the requirement. Especially from July 1 to August 6, 2024, during the July mass uprising and various incidents arising in that context, 526 government vehicles of Bangladesh Police were burnt and destroyed and became unusable. Among them, 241 were double cabin pickups, 217 motorcycles and 68 other vehicles. He said, in order to ensure real citizen service by eliminating the problem of vehicles, a total of 418 vehicles including 200 double cabin pickups, 152 motorcycles and 66 other vehicles have been purchased for the police. Out of which, 200 double cabin pickups have been purchased through Pragati Industries. The advisor expressed optimism that with these new vehicles and equipment, Bangladesh Police will be able to provide effective and fastest services to the doorsteps of the people very quickly and ensure the overall security of the country.

DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali and additional commissioners of DMP were present at the briefing. The Adviser later inspected the vehicles handed over to DMP.
