Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir officially took charge on Wednesday (February 25) morning. He replaced outgoing IGP Baharul Alam BPM.
The Ministry of Home Affairs appointed him as IGP through a notification on Tuesday (February 24). Before his appointment, he was working as Additional IG in APBN.

A well-equipped police team gave him a guard of honor when he reached the police headquarters this Wednesday (February 25, 2026) morning. Later, he officially took charge as the highest post of Bangladesh Police.
Md. Ali Hossain Fakir joined the police force as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the 15th BCS (Police) batch on November 15, 1995. In his long career, he has served in various important units with integrity, efficiency and professionalism. He served as the Superintendent of Police of Netrokona, Feni and Magura districts. He also served successfully as the Commandant of RRF Sylhet and the Commander of 3 APBN Khulna, 5 APBN Dhaka and 7 APBN Sylhet. He worked as DIG at the Police Headquarters and SPBN.
He has also served with distinction in the international arena. He has displayed professionalism while serving in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo and Ivory Coast. He has also visited various countries including the United States and China as part of his official duties and training.
He is currently serving as the Acting President of the Bangladesh Police Service Association. He is also associated as the General Secretary of the 15th BCS Forum and the Convener of the 15th BCS (Police) Batch. He is a member of Officers Club Dhaka and Khulna Club and is associated with various social and cultural organizations.
Md. Ali Hossain Fakir obtained B.Com (Hons), M.Com and MBA degrees in Management from Dhaka University.
Born on April 5, 1968, in a respectable Muslim family under Sadar Thana of Bagerhat district, Md. Ali Hossain Fakir is married and has one son and one daughter.
