On Thursday (January 2, 2025), Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the Walkathon and Social Service Conference organized by the Department of Social Services on the occasion of National Social Service Day-2025.
The Chief Advisor said, ‘Social service is the responsibility of every person and the job of the ministry is to remind everyone so that no one forgets this responsibility, does not move away from it… I hope this call reaches everyone.’
He said that every person has a tendency to work for the benefit of others. That desire should be awakened. There is more joy in working for the welfare of others than doing something for oneself.
He called for developing the habit of working for the public good in daily life.
The Chief Advisor said that the power of people is greater than the power of the government. He also called on everyone to come forward at the individual level instead of being 100% dependent on the government to move the country forward.
Among others, the event featured speeches by Sharmeen S. Murshid, Advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare, and three student representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
