Bangladesh calls for strengthening information integrity and inclusive global communications at UN forum

Diplomatic Desk:

Bangladesh has called for strengthening global initiatives to ensure information integrity, combat misinformation and disinformation, and build inclusive communications systems. Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, made the call at the general debate of the 48th session of the Committee on Information held at the UN Headquarters in New York on Monday (April 27, 2026).

He said that misinformation, misleading propaganda, hate speech and misuse of artificial intelligence and digital platforms are increasing divisions around the world and eroding mutual trust in societies. In this context, he emphasized ensuring the responsible use of information and communication technologies and reducing the existing digital divide between and within countries.

At the session, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury highlighted Bangladesh’s significant contribution to peacekeeping operations, especially the increasing participation of women peacekeepers. He said that there is a need for coordinated and sustained international efforts to counter propaganda against peacekeeping operations, ensure accountability, and strengthen environmental responsibility. He also noted that misinformation in various areas, including the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar and the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza, is further complicating the situation. He placed special emphasis on disseminating accurate information and raising global awareness to address such crises.

Ambassador Chowdhury reiterated Bangladesh’s steadfast commitment to establishing a strong, responsible, and inclusive global communications system based on the principles and values of the United Nations.
