Mohammad Ejaz removed from Dhaka North City Corporation

The government has removed Mohammad Ejaz, the administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). In a notification signed by Mahbuba Airin, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, on Monday (February 09, 2026) morning, the administrator was removed and Suraiya Akhter Jahan, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division, was given the responsibility.

The notification issued by the City Corporation-1 branch of the ministry said that he has been given this responsibility until further orders in accordance with sub-section (1) of section 25A of the ‘Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024’.

The notification mentioned that the appointed administrator Suraiya Akhter Jahan will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation. He will perform this new responsibility as an additional responsibility in addition to his current position. As per the rules, he will only receive a ‘responsibility allowance’, but will not receive any other financial or ancillary benefits.
