Ministry of Commerce approves export of 1,200 metric tons of hilsa to India for Durga Puja

The Ministry of Commerce has announced new policies regarding hilsa fish exports. The government has taken a policy decision to conditionally export 1,200 (one thousand two hundred) metric tons of hilsa to India on the occasion of this year’s Durga Puja.

This information was given in a notification signed by S.H.M. Magfurul Hasan Abbasi, Deputy Secretary, Export 2 Branch of the Ministry of Commerce on Monday (September 8, 2025). The notification mentioned that interested exporters can apply in hard copy during office hours (up to 5 pm) until September 11, 2025.

The exporting company will have to submit the application form along with the updated trade license, ERC, income tax and VAT certificate, sales contract and license of the Department of Fisheries and other relevant documents.

The government has set the minimum export price of hilsa per kg at 12.5 US dollars. It is to be noted that those who have already applied without the previous call will also have to submit a new application.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, this initiative aims to make Bangladesh’s hilsa exports more organized and competitive in the international market.
