Law enforcement agencies will be on the ground from September 24 on the occasion of Durga Puja, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) has said.
The advisor made this statement while briefing reporters after the 14th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday (September 21, 2025) afternoon. Members of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order participated in the meeting.
The advisor said that the main formalities of Durga Puja will begin from September 28. That is why law enforcement agencies will be on the ground from September 24. In addition, 80,000 volunteers will be recruited by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs on the occasion of Durga Puja this time. The government is fully prepared to conduct the puja smoothly and peacefully.
In response to a question regarding drugs, the Home Affairs Advisor said, drugs are entering our country through various routes, but instead, rice, fertilizer and medicines are leaving. Not only through the Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong routes, but also through the sea routes near Barisal and Barguna. Our BGB, Coast Guard and Navy are working to prevent these smugglings.
In response to journalists’ questions about allegations of idol vandalism in different areas, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, one or two isolated incidents may happen. However, the government is vigilant and alert in this regard and legal action will be taken after identifying the miscreants through CCTV footage.
Stating that farmers are not getting fair price for potatoes, the Advisor said, if farmers do not get fair price for potatoes, they will reduce or stop cultivating potatoes in the future. Then the price of potatoes will increase again. Therefore, to ensure fair price of potatoes, the government has set the minimum price at the cold storage gate at Tk 22 per kg. In addition, an initiative has been taken to purchase 50,000 metric tons of potatoes and store them in cold storage.
