July graffiti will remind nation of youth’s sacrifice for freedom and democracy: Home Affairs Advisor

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, the graffiti “July Bravery” and “July Sacrifice” painted in memory of the martyrs of the July student uprising will repeatedly remind our nation of the sacrifice of the youth for freedom and democracy. It will especially remind the present and future generations – that July uprising was not just a movement, but a struggle to establish truth and justice against injustice. That movement led by the student population united the expectations of the masses and gave a new direction to the nation.

The advisor said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the graffiti “July Bravery” and “July Sacrifice” painted in memory of the martyrs of the July uprising by the students at the mural square on the Mawa side of the Padma Bridge in Louhajang, Munshiganj on Saturday (September 20, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that this initiative of painting graffiti in memory of the martyrs of the mass uprising will inspire the young society to be inspired by the spirit of truth, justice, freedom and democracy. It will be our responsibility to remember their sacrifice with respect and at the same time keep their ideals in our hearts to take the country forward.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said, on the occasion of the July Rebirth and Youth Festival 2025, graffiti has been painted on the mural square on both sides of the Padma Bridge to commemorate the historical event by making the heroism and sacrifice of the July Revolution the main theme, as per the instructions of the Road Transport and Bridge Advisor and the advice of the Cultural Advisor. He said, today’s event is not just an inaugural event, it is a unique effort to convey history to the new generation.

Expressing his sincere gratitude to the graffiti artists, the advisor said, this work of art created with the collective efforts of the artists will be an invaluable witness to our history. He sincerely thanked everyone involved for making the event a success.

Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Md. Fahimul Islam, Secretary of Bridge Division (Routine Duty) Mosammat Momtaz Begum, DIG of Dhaka Range of Bangladesh Police Rezaul Karim Mallick, Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj Fatema-tul-Jannat and Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner of Shariatpur Tahsina Begum and Superintendent of Police Md. Nazrul Islam PPM were present.

The advisor later inaugurated the graffiti painted in memory of the martyrs of the July student uprising at the mural square at the Jajira end of Shariatpur of Padma Bridge. He also inspected the proposed park site owned by the Bangladesh Water Development Board along the Padma River in Haldia, Louhjang, Munshiganj.
