JICA Launches New Project for Air Pollution Monitoring in Bangladesh: Advanced Equipment to be Installed in Dhaka and Chattogram

On February 3rd, JICA Chief Representative ICHIGUCHI Tomohide signed a grant agreement with the Government of Bangladesh on “Project for the Improvement of Equipment for Air Pollution Monitoring”, witnessed by H.E. Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Government of Japan.

Bangladesh is one of the countries facing the most severe air pollution globally particularly during the dry season. This severe air pollution is posing significant health risks, such as respiratory and heart diseases, leading to a high number of premature fatalities each year.

The Project will set up air pollution monitoring equipment in Dhaka and Chattogram to enhance the capacity to measure and analyze pollutants, primarily from vehicle emissions, contributing to fresher and healthier air for all.
